Renault Duster-based Nissan mid-size SUV spotted testing in India for first time – Car News

Nissan C SUV

Upon launch, the upcoming Nissan C-segment SUV will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and its cousin Renault Duster.

Nissan is working on staging another comeback with two new product launches– a compact MPV and a mid-size SUV — both derivatives of Nissan models. The latter is based on the highly-anticipated third-gen Renault Duster which is geared up for launch in India in early 2026. Meanwhile, Nissan has already started testing its own version of the mid-size SUV.

A test mule of the upcoming Nissan C-segment SUV has been spotted testing on Indian roads for the first time. Expected to go on sale by mid-2026, the yet unnamed Nissan SUV was caught on camera testing in Tamil Nadu. The images show a fully-camouflaged test unit of the SUV which makes it very hard to deduce any specific details about the vehicle.

Nissan mid-size SUV: Details spotted

Although the test unit of the compact C-segment SUV wears a heavy camouflage it is clearly seen that most of the design will be based on the concept teased a few months back. It also establishes the fact that Nissan SUV will be very different from its Renault cousin in terms of looks. While both models share the co-developed CMF-B platform, the new SUV will align with Nissan’s latest design language.

The vehicle seems to draw inspiration from the flagship Nissan Patrol with the brand’s signature grille with dual chrome strips running horizontally, a centrally placed Nissan emblem, and inverted L-shaped LED daytime running lights connected by a chrome trim.. The front bumper design further sets it apart from its French relative.

The side profile is dominated by squared wheel arches with flared claddings and a rugged alloy wheel design. At the rear, it gets a sculpted tailgate housing a registration plate at a centre along with a roof-mounted spoiler, rectangular tail-lights and a shark fin antenna. The cabin interiors still remain in the dark.

Nissan mid-size SUV: Expected powertrain

The Nissan SUV will borrow its powertrain from the Renault Duster which comes with a plethora of engine and transmission options, internationally. Nissan is yet to confirm which powertrain option(s) will be offered with this SUV in the Indian market. However, we expect both a naturally aspirated and a turbocharged petrol engine on offer in the upcoming Nissan SUV. A strong hybrid powertrain can be expected at a later stage.
