If we peel back the decades, small Japanese sports cars became extremely popular in the United States beginning in the early 1980s. Models like the Toyota Supra and the Nissan 300ZX were popular models that come to mind, along with more obscure nameplates like the Isuzu Piazza were also on offer. The reason behind their popularity was the sheer depression felt when it came to their American counterparts, many of which were using underpowered, thirsty V8s that couldn’t perform to the same level as the Japanese nameplates.
